PORTLAND — Illinois Valley’s James Conn got off to a strong start in search of this third state title on Thursday at the Class 2A/1A state meet at the Memorial Coliseum.

Conn, who finished second at state his freshman year before winning two straight 2A/1A crowns, pinned Heppner’s Jaxson Wright in one minute, 40 seconds in the 113-pound quarterfinals Thursday afternoon.
