Hidden Valley’s red-hot start to the 2026 baseball season cooled a bit on Friday afternoon.

The fifth-ranked Mustangs saw their five-game season-opening winning streak snapped with an 8-3 non-league defeat against Class 3A South Umpqua in Murphy.

Hidden Valley (5-1) managed just three hits after scoring at least nine runs in all of its first five games.
