The Grants Pass Balloon & Kite Festival launched this morning with a number of balloons taking off from Redwood Elementary School. The take-off site was originally scheduled for South Middle School, but unfavorable wind conditions there prompted organizers to relocate. The festival runs through Sunday and includes morning balloon flights, tethered balloon rides, colorful giant kites, a 10,000-square-foot American flag kite, food vendors and balloon night glows. Balloons are scheduled to launch Saturday and Sunday mornings from South Middle, while all other activities will take place off Lower River Road, 1.7 miles past Lincoln Road.
