Victim of Monday's shooting at North Valley Industrial Park id'd as businessman Kurt Krauss
The victim of Monday’s fatal shooting at the North Valley Industrial Park has been identified as Kurt Krauss, founder of Playcraft Systems, one of the largest employers in the Grants Pass area. Oregon State Police issued a press release today saying for the first time that someone was killed in the shooting at the industrial park near Merlin and that the victim was Krauss. He was 56. The shooting was reported at 6:52 a.m. at 200 Corporate Way, according to state police, which did not elaborate on the nature of the crime. OSP detectives are leading the investigation, with assistance from Josephine County sheriff’s deputies, Grants Pass police and the district attorney’s office. “The investigation is active and ongoing,” according to the press release, which urged anyone with information about the shooting to call the OSP Southern Command Center in Central Point at 541-664-4600. Krauss famously started Playcraft Systems, which makes playground equipment and was originally known as Krauss Craft, in the garage of his home in Selma in 1988 before moving to the North Valley Industrial Park in 2003. Today the company has about 200 employees. Krauss sold the company to PlayCore Holdings, a Tennessee-based playground equipment maker, in 2017. |
