Cave Junction Speedy Mart shooting suspect arraigned on charge of attempted murder
A man accused of shooting another man outside a convenience store in Cave Junction was arraigned Monday on a charge of attempted murder. Ronald Jedidiah Fehlhaber, 32, is accused of shooting Floyd Greenlee, 29, minutes after they squared off in the parking lot of Speedy Mart last Thursday. According to a probable-cause affidavit filed by Oregon State Police, Fehlhaber confronted Greenlee with a type of skateboard known as a longboard, raising it above his head in a threatening manner. Greenlee responded by producing a machete. The two men then separated before Fehlhaber returned about 15 minutes with a pistol and began shooting. The case investigator said Fehlhaber opened fire with a .22-caliber pistol, hitting Greenlee three times in the upper torso. Witnesses previously told the Daily Courier that after the shooting, people at the store took Greenlee inside and locked the doors until state troopers arrived. Greenlee was subsequently transported to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass, where he was listed in good condition as of Saturday morning. Fehlhaber fled toward nearby Jubilee Park but turned himself in at about noon Saturday to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Roseburg. Fehlhaber, who goes by the name “Jed,” has a lengthy criminal record that includes a felony conviction in Jackson County in 2012 for second-degree arson. At the time of the shooting, he was out on bail and awaiting trial in connection with an incident last year in which he allegedly fired five rounds from a pistol during a disturbance at Jubilee Park. That incident led to a lockdown of nearby schools in Cave Junction. The Speedy Mart shooting is the second attempted murder case this month in Cave Junction, after a shooting on July 1 by a man armed with an AK-style rifle. Joseph Sallman, 30, is accused of firing off dozen of rounds in front of a group of cabins in the 27000 block of Redwood Highway, injuring neighbor John “Bud” LaRue and killing LaRue’s dog. A camel across the road at the Tiger Preservation Center also died after allegedly being hit by a stray bullet. Sallman was at large for three days before a sheriff’s deputy spotted him nonchalantly stopping off at a convenience store in Selma. Fehlhaber’s arrest Saturday did little to quell the violence in Cave Junction, where a man reportedly wearing a green wig was arrested after a freakout that included climbing atop Taylor’s Sausage while armed with a baseball bat. Earlier on Saturday morning, state troopers investigated another shooting in the area, this time on Westside Road. A man who suffered a gunshot wound to the pelvic area initially claimed he was shot by another man, but later admitted he had accidentally shot himself, OSP said. He got a ride in an ambulance to Three Rivers hospital. |
